Local airlines have been asked to offer lower priced tickets, in line with the sharp fall in aviation fuel prices.
Airlines asked to lower ticket prices
The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV), under the Ministry of Transport, has asked local airliners to lower prices and offer more low-cost tickets, or open more discount programmes for passengers.
The CAAV said the jet fuel A1 price has gone down considerably and opens an opportunity for the transport market. As of September 3, A1 retail prices fell for the fifth consecutive time since the last rise in June.
Airlines were asked to sent back reports by September 15.
Domestic petrol prices for vehicles were cut by up to VND1,198 a litre from September 3, the second largest drop in 11 cuts since early 2015.
Aviation prices account for 39.5 percent of an airline's costs, and the main contributor to ticket prices.
The Transport Ministry's move has been welcomed as a potential boost for the tourism sector.
