Vietnam confirmed an additional 2,855 Covid-19 infections on Tuesday, up 679 cases from the previous day, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 52 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (577), Phu Tho (230), Vinh Phuc (156), Bac Ninh (130), and Nghe An (109).
As of Tuesday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to over 10.68 million. The country now stands 12th among 227 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (1,592,609), HCM City (608,776), Nghe An (482,845), Bac Giang (385,863), and Binh Duong (383,541).
On May 10, an additional 2,769 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to over 9.32 million.
On Tuesday evening, one death related to Covid-19 was announced in Tra Vinh Province, raising the number of fatalities in Vietnam to 43,058.
By May 9, the country had injected nearly 216 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. More than 10 million people have been granted vaccine passports.
