A gas explosion in Khai Son Industrial Park in Thuan Thanh District, Bac Ninh Province on Wednesday morning severely injured 32 workers and posed threats of another explosion.

Nguyen Van Hung, Secretary of Thuan Thanh District's Party Committee said the explosion happened at around 9 am at a factory in the industrial park. "The authorities have rescued and transferred 32 workers to hospitals. Two severely burned workers were also sent to a central hospital for treatment. The explosion may have caused billions of VND in damage."
Thuan Thanh District police are co-operating with Bac Ninh Provincial police to investigate the case. The initial conclusion is that a gas cylinder exploded when it was being installed.
According to Hung, the subsequent fire has been contained. The site is being watched while fire fighters and rescue services attempt to douse the fires and rescue any more trapped workers.
Remains of the gas cylinder were found scattered around site, while liquid gas carriers were ripped open by the force of the explosion.
Le Van Minh, a local living near the industrial park said they saw the fire then several minutes later, they heard an explosion. Their house’s glass doors and windows were shattered by the blast.
