On June 24, the Military Command of Do Luong Commune in Nghe An Province, in coordination with the Engineering Unit of the Nghe An Province Military Command, safely destroyed a bomb left over from the war.
Earlier, workers from a construction unit discovered an object suspected to be a bomb while excavating foundations for a project at Luu Son Primary School in Do Luong Commune.

After receiving the report, the Military Command of Do Luong Commune arrived at the scene to verify the discovery and cordon off the area. Authorities identified it as a highly dangerous demolition bomb.
The bomb was buried about 2.5 metres underground. It bore the marking MK82, measured more than 1.5 metres in length, had a diameter of 27.5cm and weighed about 250 kilogrammes. Its detonator was still intact when it was found.
On the morning of June 24, sappers from the Nghe An Province Military Command disabled the fuse and, in coordination with local authorities, moved the bomb to a disposal site, ensuring absolute safety for people and property.
Authorities believe the bomb was used by the United States during its air war against northern Vietnam in the 1960s and 1970s, and said it was the largest bomb ever discovered in Do Luong Commune.
