17-month-old boy seriously injured in airport escalator accident

A 17-month-old boy in Ha Tinh Province had his wrist nearly cut off after being caught on an escalator at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on April 6.

A 17-month-old boy in Ha Tinh Province had his wrist nearly cut off after being caught on an escalator at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on April 6.

According to the initial information, on April 6 afternoon, after completing security procedures, the boy and his mother, 26 years old, went to the airport’s lounge to board a flight to Dong Hoi City in Quang Binh Province.

During the waiting time, the boy ended up playing by himself. At 3:55 pm, people nearby heard a loud scream from the escalator area. The young boy had fallen and become stuck by the escalator’s steps. His right wrist was nearly cut off.

Airport staff immediately came to the scene to give him the first aid and then took him to hospital.

The escalator is situated at Gate 3 where serves flights of different airlines. However, at that time, there were no flights so it was closed.

The boy's hand had been successfully reattached by doctors at the Hospital for Traumatology and Orthopaedics in HCM City later the same day.
