The temple saw a big crowd from midnight who came to wish for the best things to come in the lunar new year.
Many people could not come inside and sent their prayers from the yard.
They prepared cakes, votive papers, fresh fruits and flowers as offerings.
Pham Ba Lan from Hoan Kiem District said it has become a tradition for many Buddhist followers to visit pagodas and temples on the first day of the lunar New Year to pray for good luck.
"I joined many people to come to the Tay Ho Temple right after watching the firework display at Hoan Kiem Lake," he said.
The temple became more crowded in the morning.
