Vietnam's national team won two bronze medals and a prestigious teaching award at the 2026 International Economics Olympiad (IEO), marking the country's first in-person participation in the global competition.

According to results announced at 5 pm local time on July 19, the bronze medals were awarded to Nguyen Thanh Truc and Hoang Duc Minh.

In addition to the students' achievements, Nguyen Thanh Tam received the "Teacher with the Highest Achievement in Innovation in Economics Teaching" award in recognition of outstanding creativity in economics education.

Speaking to the Vietnamese team on July 18, Vietnam's Consul General in Guangzhou, Nguyen Viet Dung, said the competition offered more than an opportunity to demonstrate academic excellence in economics, finance and business.

He said the Olympiad also provided a valuable platform for students to exchange ideas with international peers and promote the image of Vietnam's younger generation on the global stage.

The 2026 International Economics Olympiad, hosted in China, marks Vietnam's first direct participation in the prestigious international academic competition.
