The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that from the evening of July 19 to the night of July 20, the northern mountainous and midland regions and Quang Ninh are expected to see moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 30-60mm and isolated areas receiving more than 150mm.
On the night of July 19 and during July 20, other parts of northern Vietnam are forecast to have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 10-20mm and some places seeing more than 50mm. From July 21, heavy rain in these areas is expected to ease gradually.
The meteorological agency warned of the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes in several communes and wards in Lai Chau, Lao Cai and Tuyen Quang.

On July 20-21, the area from southern Nghe An to Danang, as well as the eastern parts of provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, is forecast to remain under hot conditions, with some places experiencing severe heat. Maximum temperatures will generally range from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, with some areas above 38 degrees Celsius.
From July 22, the heat across central Vietnam is likely to ease gradually.
Other areas will see isolated showers and thunderstorms, while the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam are expected to have scattered showers and possible thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening.
Further ahead, the agency said that from July 21 to 24, as the low-pressure area weakens and dissipates, rainfall in northern Vietnam will decrease. However, around July 24-25, moist south-easterly winds are expected to become active, increasing the likelihood of thunderstorms in many parts of the north.
In central Vietnam, the heat is expected to ease from July 22, and by around July 23 it will remain only in isolated areas. Between July 24 and 26, the region is forecast to have scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening, while daytime sunshine will persist without widespread heat.
