Over ten households in Hanoi's Giang Van Minh Street, where an incident involving additive leakage occurred during a nearby metro tunnel excavation, have been urgently evacuated as cracks appeared in their houses.

On February 20, additives used in excavating the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line tunnel surged to the surface of Alley 7 on Giang Van Minh Street in Ba Dinh District.

Upon receiving the report, the project investor, the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB), Systra consultants, the Hyundai-Ghella contractor consortium, and local authorities arrived to assess and address the situation.

A few days later, residents began to notice small cracks on the road and in their house walls and reported the issue to local authorities and the contractor for monitoring.

"However, the cracks kept widening," a resident told reporters.

At 2 pm on February 27, the project investor and the contractor met with affected households to discuss possible solutions. By 7 pm the same day, more than ten households unexpectedly received an emergency evacuation notice to ensure safety.

On the night of February 27, eight households were relocated.

Local authorities stated that the contractor requested evacuation. The measure aimed to reinforce and rectify specific issues following the recent leakage of mud and additives.

Residents are now deeply concerned about the safety of their homes and belongings following the incident.

The project investor has not yet provided further information regarding the incident.

The Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line spans 12.5km and has eight elevated and four underground stations. The elevated section, covering 8.5 km from Nhon to Cau Giay, is already in commercial operation, while the 4km underground section from Cau Giay to Hanoi Station remains under construction.

The project commenced in 2009 and was initially slated for completion in 2015. However, multiple delays have pushed the expected completion of the entire route to 2027.
