The Ca Mau Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search, and Rescue announced on Wednesday that a fishing vessel captained by N.V.X, 44, departed at the end of January for a fishing trip with his 43-year-old wife also on board.
At around 11 am on February 24, X.’s family contacted him and were informed that the vessel was operating near the Cong Nghiep estuary. However, by 2 pm the same day, they lost contact with him.
Relatives of X. requested other fishing boats to assist in the search, and by 9 am on February 25, they discovered X.’s vessel had sunk. The couple remains missing.
Since the beginning of 2025, natural disasters in Ca Mau province have caused the sinking of four fishing vessels.
