Ly Son fisherman catches 200-kilo milk shark

A fisherman from Ly Son Island District in the central province of Quang Ngai has caught a milk shark weighing up to 200 kilos.

The milk shark was reeled in by Nguyen Thanh in an area about two nautical miles from the shore.

The fish was hooked about two nautical miles from the shore. Thanh then called on other fishermen to help bring it on board. Upon arriving at Ly Son Port, he used a crane to lift the shark ashore.

"This is the largest fish I have ever caught," Thanh said.

As news spread, many traders contacted Thanh to buy the shark. He later decided to sell it for VND14 million (USD548.37).

Ly Son residents say milk shark meat is delicious and highly nutritious.

Fishermen in Ly Son have typically only caught sharks weighing between 20 and 50 kilogrammes. It is rare for them to see a 200-kilo shark.
