A report from local authorities said that the tragic accident occured at 3 am on November 6 at a house which lies in a small lane on Bach Dang Street.

"There were seven people including four children inside the 40-square-metre two-storey house at that time," the report said. "The fire broke out at the living-room on the ground floor at about 3 am and quickly spread out."

A resident who lives near the house said that some neighbours heard the screams for help from the house and rushed to the site to help but the fire was spreading so fast.

"We knew that two girls were stuck inside but were unable to access them due to the violent fire," he said.

Fire fighters arrived at 3.35 am and managed to control the fire in one hour. However, the two girls aged 10 and 16 were found dead in the debris.

Initial investigations showed that the fire might have started  from an electric bike which was being charged in the living room.

Police are further investigating the cause of the fire.
