The incident occurred around 8.30 am on March 1 along the railway section passing through Duc Lien Commune in the central province of Ha Tinh.

According to Nguyen Dinh Chuyen, chairman of the Duc Lien Commune People's Committee, a truck suddenly broke down while attempting to cross the railway. The driver quickly opened the door and exited the cabin. At the same time, a northbound freight train approached and collided with the truck.
Following the crash, the truck's front section broke off and was heavily damaged, and around three train carriages overturned, displacing hundreds of metres of railway track.
The train driver sustained light injuries.
The railway sector is working with relevant agencies to handle the accident's aftermath.
