64 households living by the Cam Mountain in Binh Dinh are being threatened by landslides.

Vice Chairman of the Phu Cat District People's Committee in Binh Dinh Province, Do Xuan Thang, announced on Friday that the district is accelerating efforts to relocate households residing in landslide-prone areas near Cam Mountain in Cat Thanh Commune to ensure their safety.

According to Thang, relocating residents from hazardous areas is an urgent measure to protect lives and property and an opportunity to establish a safer and more sustainable living environment.

"The district is working to finalise compensation and support plans to facilitate the relocation as soon as possible. This will help residents stabilise their lives in a new location while addressing concerns about future landslide risks," he stated.

Thai Xuan Binh, a 65-year-old resident of Hamlet 1, Chanh Thang Village, shared his concerns: "After the landslide at Cam Mountain, everyone is worried, especially during prolonged heavy rains and the storm season. We live in constant fear, not knowing when rocks and soil from the mountain might come crashing down. I hope to be relocated to a safer place."

At the end of 2021, after days of heavy rain, approximately 35,000 cubic metres of soil and rocks from Cam Mountain were swept down by floodwaters, covering gardens, flooding homes, and threatening the lives and property of dozens of households at the mountain's base.

Following the landslide, the Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee approved a relocation project, assigning the Phu Cat District People's Committee to develop a resettlement area and urgently move 64 households from the affected region. The project, with a total investment of VND 32 billion, has been implemented from 2022 to 2023.

According to the construction unit, the resettlement area's infrastructure is nearly complete, and electrical connections are being prepared to ensure adequate living conditions for residents.

Meanwhile, the Phu Cat District authorities are finalising land measurements and asset inventories for the 64 households in the first relocation phase. Each resettlement plot is expected to cover 200 square metres.
