Sleeper bus collides with semi-truck, killing six in Son La

At least six people were killed and eight others suffered injuries after a sleeper bus crashed into a semi-truck when traveling on National Highway 6 in Son La Province late Friday night.

Speaking with Dantri on the morning of February 22, Tran Van Hoang, Chairman of the Sap Vat Commune People's Committee, confirmed that a serious traffic accident had occurred in the area, claiming six lives and injuring eight people.

"At around 11:20 PM on February 21, a passenger bus traveling from Son La to Hanoi collided with a semi-truck which was towing a trailer  in the opposite direction," Hoang said. "The intense crash left five passengers on the bus and the truck driver dead on the spot. Eight other passengers sustained injuries."

Alcohol and drug tests conducted on the bus driver showed no violations," the official added.

It was raining at the time of the accident and the crash occurred just after a curve in the road. 

Initial police investigations revealed that the semi-truck was in the correct lane, while the sleeper bus had veered into oncoming traffic.

Both vehicles were badly damaged in the accident.

National Highway 6 is a key route connecting Hanoi to the northwestern provinces of Vietnam. The section passing through Yen Chau District, Son La Province, stretches 48 kilometres and primarily consists of a two-lane road with multiple sharp, winding curves through mountainous terrain.
