The tree stood alone by the winding mountain road, becoming an iconic photo spot.
According to a Hiep Hoa Bac Ward representative in Lien Chieu District, local authorities were aware of the tree and requested the forest rangers to propose a replacement plan.

Dang Van Thang, a Southern Hai Van Forest Protection Team member, said that the pine tree grew between 1978 and 1979 and has attracted many domestic and international visitors for photos. It has become a beloved scenic highlight of the Hai Van Pass area.

Since June last year, the pine tree has shown signs of dying due to termites. Thang spent his money hiring workers to eradicate them, but the efforts were unsuccessful. Now, the tree has withered away and died.
