A passenger plane lands at Phu Cat Airport.
The provincial Transport Project Management Board will invest VND3.24 trillion in the project from 2025 to 2028.
Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Binh Dinh People's Committee, has instructed the investor to commence construction in August and operate the first phase within 10 months.
Binh Dinh authorities have also requested approval from the Ministry of Defence to transfer nearly 110 hectares of military land for the project.
According to the provincial people's committee, investing in Phu Cat Airport's second runway and related facilities is a key project that will drive local economic and social development.
Phu Cat Airport, located 30 kilometres northwest of the beach town of Quy Nhon, currently has a capacity of five million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo annually.
By 2050, it is planned to be upgraded to level 4E, which means a capacity of 12-15 million passengers and 27,000 tonnes of cargo annually.
