On June 17, he made it through to the quarter-final round of the Antalya 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup, the last qualifier prior to the Paris Olympics, which are being held in Turkey.
In the men’s individual category, Phong defeated Ram Krishna Saha of Bangladesh 6-2 and officially qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Antalya 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup will last through to June 23. The competition sees Vietnamese archers face rivals from 49 countries and territories worldwide with the top positions in the men's and women's individual competitions going on to qualify for Paris.
The archery at the Olympics in Paris is scheduled to run over a seven-day period, from July 25 to August 4, at the Esplanade des Invalides.
Le Quoc Phong is the 12th Vietnamese athlete to secure a berth at the Olympics following cyclist Nguyen Thi That, shooters Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen, boxer Vo Thi Kim Anh, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, weightlifter Trinh Van Vinh, badminton players Nguyen Thuy Linh and Le Duc Phat, canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong, rower Pham Thi Hue, and boxer Ha Thi Linh.
