The incidents have occurred at Thoi Loi Volcano, the island’s highest peak, where steep cliffs overlooking the sea attract visitors seeking panoramic views and social media photos.

Many tourists ignored warning signs and crossed guardrails to pose near the cliff edge, located about 100 metres above sea level.
Local residents warned that the area was particularly dangerous because strong winds frequently swept across the mountaintop while weathered volcanic rocks could easily crumble underfoot.

“The rocks have eroded into loose fragments, making it easy to slip,” local resident Nguyen Van Thien said.
Ly Son Special Zone authorities said safety barriers and warning signs had already been installed along the road leading to the summit, but risky behaviour continued.
Authorities said they would work with tour operators and accommodation providers to strengthen safety awareness campaigns for visitors and reduce the risk of accidents at dangerous sites across the island.
