Dang Thi Khen, 48, was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago. However, she's been unable to afford hospital treatment.

Her health has badly deteriorated recently due to the growing tumor, making her unable to sleep properly.

Sitting beside the woman who was moaning of pains in her old small house in Cu M'gar District, her eldest son, 19-year-old Nguyen Van Chung gently wiped sweat on her face.

Chung said his mother has refused hospital treatment as they don't have enough money.

"My parents were already in debt before my mum was diagnosed with the disease," he said. "As she cannot afford hospital treatment, we've tried to find some herbal medicines for my mother but they didn't help much. Her condition has worsened and now we can only buy her some pain killers."

Chung has quit school to work at a local hair salon to help his father support the family. However, his modest income as an apprentice can only cover food and essential things for his two small brothers.

"People who lent money to my parents sometimes come to threaten us, telling my parents that they would take our house if my parents don't pay the money back soon," he said. "My mum can now only cry."

Chairman of Ea MDroh Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Van Nam, said that Khen is currently in desperate need of financial support to help cover her cancer treatment as soon as possible.

"We've also provided some support but that's not enough," Nam said. "She needs more help from the community to treat the disease."
