The trial tours followed an agreement on the development and protection of tourism resources at Ban Gioc Waterfall signed between the two countries in 2016.

According to Pham Van Cao, director of the Cao Bang Department of External Affairs, the pilot will last for one year. During this time, tourists from the two nations are required to register in advance in groups of up to 20 people.

In the first three months of the pilot phase, the number of tours on each side must not surpass 10 a day.

Tourists are allowed to use their passports or entry/exit permits to enter the area.

Visitors from Vietnam are exempted from the entrance fee for entering the Chinese side. But tourists from the Vietnamese side must buy insurance before entry.

However, tourists from China must pay an entrance fee of VND70,000 (USD2.8) per person, including insurance but excluding other service surcharges.
