Hoa Binh bridge collapses due to Typhoon Yagi's impact
A bridge in the northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh has collapsed following prolonged heavy rain caused by Typhoon Yagi.
At around 1:30 am this morning, September 19, Ngoi Mong Bridge in Hoa Binh City's Hop Thanh Commune started showing cracks, and roughly three and a half hours later, it collapsed. Luckily, no casualties were reported.
The bridge mainly serves residents and vehicles such as motorcycles, cars, and small trucks. Since September 7, Hoa Binh has faced heavy rain, resulting in landslides on Road 445. Therefore, local authorities banned all people and vehicles from going through Ngoi Mong Bridge.
Ngoi Mong Bridge is 32 metres long and 4.5 metres wide.
Phong Chau Bridge in the northern province of Phu Tho collapsed on September 9 during Typhoon Yagi, leaving five dead and eight missing.
On September 17, 50 households with a total of 200 people in Lac Son District in Hoa Binh were evacuated as cracks hundreds of metres long appeared on their nearby hill.
