Le Kieu Nhu decided to continue the lawsuit

After her lawyer, Nguyen Thanh Cong, of East Law Firm, filed a petition with California Civil Court that Apple infringed on the copyright of her novel, "Soi Xich" or “The Chain”, by selling the novel in its Apple Store without seeking her consent; an Apple representative sent a letter to her lawyer in which the company pledged that they would remove her novel from the Apple Store as soon as possible.

Le Kieu Nhu, however, told VTC News that she’s dissatisfied with Apple’s solution.

“In their letter to my representative of July 11 they passed on the responsibility to the software developer Boilder Shimp. Even though they’ve pledged to remove my novel from their Apple Store, I think it doesn’t make sense when they pass the accountability onto a third party. Apple has illegally sold my novel and earned a lot for over the past four years. They must compensate me,” Nhu said.

Nhu says she still maintains her request that first Apple compensates her with USD100,000, and at the same time stops illegal sales of her book.

“If they don’t give me the compensation, I’ll have my lawyer in the US continue the lawsuit,” she emphasised.

The author and her representative are compiling a new petition to Apple on the issue.

They’ve also linked with several domestic authors whose copyrights have also been infringed by Apple, including, Nguyen Ngoc Tu and Bui Anh Tuan, in order to sign a common petition that would be sent to the Copyright Office of Vietnam to call for support.
