The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Olympic Committee held a ceremony on September 9 to send off Vietnam's delegation for Asiad 20, which will run from September 19 to October 4 in Japan.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra encouraged athletes and officials to overcome every challenge and strive for outstanding performances in service of national pride.
She said Vietnamese sport has continued to mature and achieve notable successes at both continental and global competitions, reflecting years of sustained development.

The Deputy Prime Minister called on the delegation to compete with determination and ambition, uphold the values of fair play and honesty, maintain discipline and unity, strictly comply with competition regulations, respect opponents, referees and spectators, and observe the laws and customs of the host country.
Reporting at the ceremony, head of delegation Nguyen Hong Minh said the sports sector had conducted a comprehensive review of its athlete pool following the 2025 SEA Games and sent outstanding competitors to training programmes in developed countries.

Vietnam will field a 498-member delegation at Asiad 20, including 349 athletes competing in 33 sports. These include athletics, swimming, weightlifting, shooting, rowing, canoeing, sepak takraw, karatedo, artistic gymnastics, taekwondo, archery, boxing, wrestling, cycling, wushu, kurash, jujitsu, men's and women's indoor volleyball, men's and women's beach volleyball, men's and women's football, judo, golf, handball, badminton, fencing, sailing, teqball, esports, breaking and mixed martial arts (MMA).
