The programme is being operated by Hanoi 5 Cua O (five gates) train) from April 27 to May 3 to mark Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day.
Designed as a moving storytelling space, the train has been redecorated with wartime slogans, historical imagery and visual displays evoking key periods of Vietnam’s resistance struggles, particularly the reunification of North and South in 1975.

Rather than taking passengers to distant destinations, the journey aims to transport them through history, recreating the atmosphere of one of the country’s most significant national milestones and the collective memory of post-war reunification.
Visitors can interact with the themed historical displays and take photographs with performers dressed as soldiers, activities organisers say are intended to make history more engaging and accessible, particularly for younger generations.
The train also serves traditional Hanoi treats throughout the journey, including Trang Tien ice cream, roasted sweet potatoes, che lam, xu xe cakes and lotus tea, blending historical nostalgia with the capital’s culinary heritage.
Organisers say the initiative reflects a broader push to modernise cultural tourism in Hanoi by shifting from static historical displays towards more interactive, experience-based formats.
