The announcement was made by the Danang Pickleball Association, marking a significant step after the city successfully staged the Professional Pickleball Association Tour Asia-Vietnam, which drew more than 120 professional players and 1,000 amateurs last year.
The world cup is expected to attract both domestic and international visitors, coinciding with the National Day holiday period in early September.
During a working session with pickleball world cup president Hercilio Cabieses, association chairman Tran Phuoc Son said Danang is positioning itself as a preferred destination for top international players, showcasing its ability to host events of global standard.
He said the tournament would also serve as a platform to promote the city’s tourism and sporting potential, adding that pickleball will be incorporated into school physical education programmes and developed as a regular sport over the long term.
Danang will become the fourth host of the event, following Lima in Peru, which hosted twice, and Fort Lauderdale in the United States last year. The 2025 edition attracted around 3,000 players from 68 countries.
In recent years, the coastal city has emerged as a hub for international sporting events, including the Danang International Marathon and IRONMAN Vietnam, as well as exhibition football matches featuring former Manchester United players and Brazil’s past national team.
Pickleball, a sport combining elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, originated in Washington in the United States 59 years ago and was introduced to Vietnam in 2018.
