Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper, in partnership with Vinh Long Provincial Police Department, held a groundbreaking ceremony in Thanh Phuoc Commune to build a new home for Ngo Thi Yen Nhi, 14, and her sister Tra Mi, 8.

Their father died of illness four years ago, and their mother later left and remarried. The sisters have since lived in a rundown hut. Nhi quit school to take odd jobs and feed both of them after the neighbours’ support faded.
Following the report of their plight, Dtinews readers donated more than VND 420 million (approximately USD 16,700) to support the sisters, including funding for a new home.
The 62-square-metre house will feature a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom, costing approximately VND 300 million (USD 11,900), with VND 100 million allocated for land and VND 200 million for construction. The project is expected to finish in 45 days.
Lieutenant Colonel Huynh Thanh Trieu of Vinh Long police expressed gratitude to readers for their compassion. Local authorities have pledged to sponsor the children until they turn 18.

At the ceremony, the sisters thanked donors, Dtinews, the police and local officials. “I promise to take good care of my sister and cherish this home,” Nhi said tearfully, adding she plans to learn a trade to support her younger sibling.
