Infant baby thirsts for milk as parents hospitalised

A poor family in Long An Province is in need of help to feed their three-month baby as his father had his limbs amputated after an accident, while his mother has been hospitalised for appendicitis.

Dang Long Ho became the sole breadwinner for his family after his father died working as a bricklayer. He was just married and had a child when the accident happened.

On August 24, he was electrocuted while working at a construction site. He was provided with first aid at a local hospital before being sent to the Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City.

Doctor Ngo Duc Hiep, who treated him, said, “Ho suffered 5% serious burn to his hands and legs. In order to save his life, we had to cut off a third of his arms and a third of his right leg.”

Ho's wife is currently hospitalised for appendicitis treatment following giving birth.

Since the family has borrowed hundreds of millions of VND to pay hospital charges, they have no money left for the new-born child. Ho's relatives are also poor and are not in a position to help them much.

Ho's mother, Tran Thi Luom, said they did not know how to repay the debts, feed the baby and support his education when he grows up as Ho would not be able to work as before. "We don't even have enough money for the baby's milk. He is living on the kindness of our neighbours," she said.

“Now I can’t even hold my own baby and support myself, let alone supporting my family,” Ho said.
