In their report released on February 6, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said that Asia was still Vietnam's most significant tourist market, with 1.60 million visitors arriving during the period, followed by Europe, America, and Australia.
Chinese tourists accounted for the most visitors to Vietnam in January, with nearly 575,000, up 137.40 percent on-year, followed by South Koreans, with 417,000.
The number of Japanese tourists also rose sharply by 30.20 percent to 72,300.
Vietnam also enjoyed an increase in the number of visitors from some European countries, especially those recently waived from visas and given longer stays in the country.
Russian tourists increased by over 49 percent, Denmark by 41.50 percent, Italy by 39.80 percent, the UK by 25.60 percent, and Poland by 20.60 percent.
According to GSO, 1.80 million foreign visitors arrived in Vietnam by air, up 39.60 percent, while those travelling by road stood at 228,400, up 29.10 percent.
About 44,900 foreigners arrived by sea, down 7.20 percent.
During the reviewed period, total tourism revenue was estimated at VND5.1 trillion, up 17.30 percent from last year, thanks to significant travel demand during the New Year and Lunar New Year holidays.
In 2025, Vietnam's tourism industry targets to welcome 22-23 million international visitors.
It will focus resources on potential, high-quality markets such as China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia, North America, India, and the Middle East to meet the set target.
Beginning March 1, Vietnam will continue to waive visas for citizens from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland who travel to Vietnam on holidays.
