Police bust fake medicated oil ring in Tay Ninh

Police in the southern province of Tay Ninh have dismantled a large-scale counterfeit medicated oil operation and seized more than 27,000 fake Eagle Brand products.

The Tay Ninh economic police unit said it was expanding an investigation into the production and sale of counterfeit goods and violations of industrial property rights involving Eagle Brand medicated oil products.

On May 16, police, market surveillance officers and forensic investigators raided a facility operated by a branch of Thinh Cuong General Trading Import-Export Co. Ltd. in Phuoc Ly Commune.

Authorities simultaneously searched four locations and detained 14 people for questioning. Investigators identified Chau Ke Cuong, 39, and Nguyen Van Duc, 36, both from Ho Chi Minh City, as the alleged ringleaders.

Seized items included 27,511 bottles of counterfeit “Eagle Brand Medicated Roll On” products, a raw-material mixing tank, three filling and packaging systems, and dozens of boxes containing labels, logos, packaging and bottle caps.

Police also confiscated large quantities of unlabelled chemicals allegedly used in the production process, along with documents, machinery and other related equipment.

The seized goods were estimated to be worth more than VND 2 billion (USD 77,000).

Investigators said the group operated under the cover of a registered business and used logistics and express delivery services to distribute counterfeit products to multiple provinces for illegal profit.
