Vietnam served an estimated 12.5 million tourists during the Lunar New Year 2025 festival (Tet), an increase of 19% compared to the 2024 Tet holiday, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).

Ho Chi Minh City took the lead, receiving about 2.1 million visitors, up 16.7%. The city also welcomed 87,358 international visitors, an increase of 16.5%.

Meanwhile, a million visitors travelled to major tourist attractions in Hanoi, an increase of 6%. Of the figure, 142,000 were foreigners, an increase of 15.8% year on year.

They were followed by Quang Ninh province ( 970,000 arrivals), Ba Ria-Vung Tau province (869,433), and Khanh Hoa province (825,000).

According to the VNAT, the number of international visitors to Vietnam has increased significantly thanks to favourable visa policies and effective promotional strategies by localities. Destinations such as Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Kien Giang, and Hue recorded a strong surge in international tourist arrivals.

To meet the travel demand of tourists and residents during the Lunar New Year holiday, Vietnamese airlines have increased flights, including additional night flights. Domestic airlines have provided over 6.9 million seats on international and domestic routes, averaging 227,000 seats per day, an increase of 4% compared to the Lunar New Year 2024.

In addition to road and air travel, cruise tourism has also seen remarkable development. Da Nang welcomed approximately 1,800 international travellers aboard the Crystal Symphony and Silver Dawn cruise ships. Quang Ninh received four large cruise ships with 6,000 passengers and 4,000 crew members.

Meanwhile, this year’s Tet tourism market witnessed an increase in train tour products on routes such as Hanoi - Lao Cai, Quang Binh, and Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang, Hue, Da Nang. Vietnam Railways launched the Spring Train, offering passengers unique experiences, including celebrating New Year’s Eve on board with countdown parties, participating in traditional games, and enjoying Tet-specific dishes.

The railway sector has added more trains on the North-South route and local routes to meet rising travel demands during the Tet holiday.

Many travel companies such as Hanoitourist, Saigontourist, Vietravel, and Benthanhtourist have launched attractive tour programmes, both inbound and outbound, with diverse promotional offers. International tours to China, Taiwan (China), Japan, and the Republic of Korea, and other countries in Southeast Asia like Thailand and Singapore, as well as to Europe and the United States have continued to attract Vietnamese tourists.
