Hanoi-Thai Nguyen tourist train set to launch in late October

A tourist train linking Hanoi and northern Thai Nguyen Province is expected to begin operations in late October, coinciding with the 2026 Thai Nguyen International Tea Festival.

Thai Nguyen authorities and Vietnam Railways are finalising plans for the service, which will run from Hanoi through Gia Lam, Dong Anh, Pho Yen and Luu Xa, with connections to tourist attractions across the province.

The tea festival will begin in late October, with its main events scheduled from October 30 to November 7.

The two sides have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop railway tourism between Hanoi and Thai Nguyen from 2026 to 2030, with plans to establish a regular service.

The route was trialled in December 2024 to promote Thai Nguyen's tea culture and tourism.

The trial train departed Hanoi Station and travelled through Pho Yen, Luu Xa and Thai Nguyen stations before terminating at Quan Trieu Station.

The journey took about two and a half hours, including 10-minute stops at each station.

The service was later suspended after the trial period.
