Nguyen Thi Tru, who was confirmed by the World Records Association as the world’s oldest woman, passed away at her home in Ho Chi Minh City on July 12 at the age of 123.
Local authorities in Binh Chanh District told Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper that Tru died at her home in Da Phuoc Commune on Tuesday evening due to old age.
Tru was born in May 1893 in Can Giuoc District, Long An Province. She came to work and live in Ho Chi Minh City with her husband and their 11 children. Nine of her children have died, and the other two are now both over 80 years old. She was living with a 79 year-old daughter-in-law during her final days.
Tru was recognised by the World Records Association as the oldest woman the world in May last year.
She once shared that her secrets for living long and healthy include eating healthily, being helpful and staying optimistic.
