Police in Hanoi have just prosecuted a local woman for killing her newborn baby.
The newborn baby is found falling to death at an apartment building in Linh Dam Urban Area on October 18
The prosecution was announced on October 23 after investigations showed that the newborn baby girl died from brain trauma as the result of falling.
The mother, Dinh Thi Van Anh, 21, earlier claimed that she found the newborn baby dead after giving birth alone at an apartment and so she threw it out of the toilet window.
At around 8 pm on October 18, some people who were going for a walk around the HH2A Apartment Building in Hoang Mai District were terrified when discovering a newborn baby that had fallen to death and still had the umbilical cord uncut.
Van Anh who at first denied relations with the dead baby was staying with her boyfriend and his cousin at an apartment on the 31st floor of the building at the time.
Van Anh is summoned to the police station on October 18
She said that the baby was from a previous relationship and her new boyfriend said that they just started for a week and he didn't know anything about her pregnancy.
Her boyfriend and his cousin were then released after police found that they weren’t involved in the incident.
Lawyer Ta Anh Tuan from Hanoi Bar Association said that the mother would face up to three years in jail.
