Taiwan display maker Wintek Corp is in talks with some industrial parks in Vietnam to build a display module plant there, a source with direct knowledge of the case told Reuters on Tuesday.
"The company is in discussions with two to three industrial parks in northern Vietnam," said the source, who declined to be identified as the source was not authorised to talk to the media.
"It could be a touch sensitive panel (module) plant but the proposal is not finalised yet," the source said. "It will take about eight to nine months to build, so the plant will start operations in the second half of next year at the earliest."
A Vietnam newspaper said on Monday that Wintek will build a $150 million plant to produce iPad touch screens in the northern province of Bac Giang\'s Quang Chau industrial park.
"Labour costs are cheaper in Vietnam than in China and the new plant will ship products for smartphones and other higher end mobile devices," the source said.
A Wintek spokesman was not available for comment.
Currently Wintek has two display module factories, one is in China and the other in India.
