Since 2000, the country has given vitro fertilisation to foreigners after it saw positive treatment results.

According a preliminary statistic report of  Ho Chi Minh City Society for Reproductive Medicine (HOSREM), every year, three local hospitals namely An Sinh, Van Hanh and Tu Du receive roughly 200 foreigners who go there for vitro fertilisation. The figure is expected to continue rising in the coming years.

Currently, Vietnam has 15 centres which provide vitro fertilisation. To date, more than 10,000 children were born in Vietnam thanks to this technique.

Vietnam has topped worldwide in terms of conducting vitro fertiliastion with the pregnancy rate of over 40%.

Professor and Doctor, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, HOSREM Chairwoman, said, “One case that helped shine a light on the quality of IVF in Vietnam was when the well known doctor C.H,, famous expert in the area of IVF, came to Vietnam for the procedure, which was successful. His son is now four years old, and the event brought worldwide attention to the quality of IVF in Vietnam."

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong added that the procedure costs anywhere between one sixth to an eighty of those in the US, and that, "Foreign patients have gained trust in IVF in Vietnam, its implications on their own health and that of their children. This trust is what brings them to Vietnam."

According to Dr. Phuong, since 2004, Vietnam has provided training, shared experienced and entered into technology transfer agreements for IVF techniques with other countries in the region and around the world. In 2001, the National University in HCM City opened a regional training centre on reproductive medicine, one of the four biggest of its kind in Asia.
