Vietnamese in Japan escape disaster

According to Vietnamese authority, there have been no Vietnamese nationals dead or injured in Japan’s earthquake.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affars, (MoLISA), there have been no Vietnamese nationals dead or injured in Japan’s earthquake.

MoLISA’s Department for Overseas Labour Management confirmed this information on March 11, after receiving initial reports from Vietnamese firms, as well as th embassy, who have sent staff to Japan.

According to the management department for Vietnamese workers in Japan, around 18,000 Vietnamese students and workers in Japan got through the disaster unharmed.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan, Nguyen Phu Binh, confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries of Vietnamese citizens from the disasters.

Taro Nakajima, the honorary consul of Vietnam in Japan, stated that all the Vietnamese workers of a fishery in Kushiro on Hokkaido island were in safe. In the meantime, Vietnamese trainees at a coal mine in Kushiro had returned home before the earthquake struck in the city.

The Vietnam Youth and Students Association (VYSA) in Japan has planned to assign a team of volunteers to Sendai city in Miyagi Province to collect information about Vietnamese students there as well as the surrounding areas.

VYSA called on relatives of students who study in localities afflicted by earthquake and tsunami to provide their personal information at www.vysajp.org.
