The two bridges are being developed under public-private partnerships and are expected to improve links between HCM City, Long Thanh International Airport and the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port complex.
The Cat Lai Bridge project will stretch more than 11.6 km from My Thuy Interchange on HCM City's Ring Road 2, across the Dong Nai River, to the Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway in Dong Nai City.
The main bridge and its approaches will span about 3.65 km. The entire project will cost more than VND 24 trillion (USD 912.5 million), including VND 14.92 trillion (USD 567.3 million) for its second component.
The six-lane cable-stayed bridge will have two additional lanes for non-motorised vehicles and a design speed of 80 kph. Its 450-metre main span and 55-metre navigation clearance will allow container ships of up to 60,000 DWT to pass underneath.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2029.
The Long Hung Bridge project will run about 9.8 km, connecting Long Phuoc Ward in HCM City with An Phuoc Commune in Dong Nai City before meeting the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway.
The main bridge and approaches will stretch about 3.5 km. The PPP project carries investment of around VND 8.45 trillion (USD 321.5 million).
Long Hung will also be cable-stayed, with a 350-metre main span and two towers about 175 metres high. It will have six motor-vehicle lanes and two mixed-traffic lanes, with a design speed of 80 kph.
The bridge is also expected to be completed in 2029.
The two projects are expected to provide new transport links between HCM City and Dong Nai and improve connections among urban and industrial areas, seaports, logistics hubs and Long Thanh International Airport.
