The Nghe An Provincial Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday announced that they have verified the deaths of four local men in the accident so far.

The Ha Tinh Provincial Department of Labours, Invalid and Social Affairs has also reported that a 30-year-old man, Dao Sy Hung, in Ky Anh District had died in the accident.

The bodies of four victims have been brought home while the fifth is still waiting for DNA test result.

According to the family of Dao Sy Hung whose remain was brought home in Ha Tinh Province on July 6, he was among a group of 23 people from some central provinces who planned to go to Taiwan to seek for jobs. At the end of February, they each gave a fee of between VND40-50 million (USD1,766-2,207) to a man in the northern province of Bac Giang to be brought to China to work.

After getting to China, the group joined a boat to Taiwan on March 31 and went missing as the boat sank.

Vice chairman of Ky Anh District People's Committee, Nguyen Xuan Thuy said on July 6 that they are still waiting for information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the fate of other people.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs announced on June 20 that nearly 18,000 people in four central provinces that were affected by the Formosa pollution disaster have gone to work abroad.

The workers from Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue have been sent to Taiwan, South Korea and Japan to work in the fishing industry, health care services, nursing homes and house helpers.
