| Vietnam will ban circulation of incandescent bulbs with capacity of over 60 watts from 2013 |
The PM’s decision was made based on the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)’s proposal to apply measures for the enforcement of the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy.
Most items on the list are subject to mandatory labels, while others are voluntary.
The decision stipulates that four groups of electric equipment should come with labels that clearly show their efficiency. The regulation differs for each of the four: home appliances, office equipment, industrial equipment and vehicles.
From 2013, the mandatory labelling will be applied to manufacturers of home appliances such as light bulbs, air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines. Industrial equipment, such as transformers and electric motors, will also fall under the new regulation.
For office equipment, however, the new labelling rules will only be voluntary, and will start in 2014 for commercial refrigerators.
Certain vehicles, namely those with seven seats or less, will also subject to compulsory labelling, but starting in 2015.
There will also be a ban on the import of incandescent light bulbs of more than 60 watts from 2013.
