All activities by the concerned parties in the area without Vietnam’s permission are illegal and invalid, said Vice spokeswoman for Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry Pham Thu Hang on October 23.

In reply to reporters’ questions relating to China’s building of an airport on Chu Thap, Stone Cross, and support for Taiwan to deploy armed ships to Ba Binh island in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, the Vietnamese official said “We firmly confirm Vietnam’s indisputable sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos."

Ms Hang again confirmed that Vietnam has sufficient legal basis and historical evidence to affirm its sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa islands

"We will resolutely oppose any unilateral activity aiming to change the status quo in this area," she added.

Concerning reporters’ questions about whether Vietnam and China would have high-level visits to boost ties in the future, Ms. Hang said Vietnam and China will celebrate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year. Both countries will definitely exchange visits to strengthen friendly neighborliness and comprehensive cooperation.
