Authorities in Danang are investigating what is believed to be a wartime mass grave after human remains and military-related artefacts were uncovered at a secondary school in Hoi An Ward.

Tran Chi Cuong, secretary of the Party Committee of Hoi An Ward, said on September 15 that officials had launched an excavation and recovery operation at Kim Dong Secondary School in Son Phong neighbourhood following the discovery of suspected human remains.
The find was made during infrastructure construction work when workers excavating foundation trenches noticed signs indicating the possible presence of buried remains and reported the matter to authorities.
During the excavation, officials recovered multiple fragments of human bones that had largely decomposed and broken apart, along with two incomplete human teeth. Investigators also found deteriorated clothing fragments and several bullets at the site.

According to preliminary assessments by local authorities, the location may have been used as a mass burial site. Further investigations are under way to determine the origin and historical context of the remains.
Authorities are continuing to excavate nearby areas considered potentially significant, while collected remains and associated artefacts are being preserved for identification, verification and possible official recovery procedures.
