The owner of the restaurant in Vy Da Ward was fined after images posted on social media showed a person holding a slaughtered bird, with several others on a tray, alongside an advertisement inviting customers to try dishes made from wild birds.
Following the post, forest rangers joined local authorities and police in inspecting the restaurant, where they found a menu listing dishes made from several wild bird species, including sparrows, waterhens, doves and herons.
Hue forest rangers said wild and migratory birds were currently appearing in large numbers in the area and authorities would step up patrols, remove traps and crack down on illegal hunting and trading.
Inspections will cover markets, restaurants, food outlets, businesses and collection points, while authorities will also increase online monitoring to detect illegal advertising and trading of wildlife.
Forest rangers have so far handled six violations involving the possession, trading or advertising of wildlife. Seized animals included 36 common birds and 13 Indochinese water dragons, a Group IIB protected species.
Total fines exceeded VND 9 million.
