A delegation of medial workers from the Governmental Office, the Ministry of Health and the National Committee for AIDS Prevention and Control has been on a working visit to Thailand within the framework of cooperation between Vietnam and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
While studying new forums of ARV therapy then expect to gather financial support for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Thailand is one of large centres producing and supplying ARV drugs at a low cost. The Thai Government has pledged to provide low-cost ARV drugs to more than 30,000 HIV patients in Thailand and abroad in the next two years.
In Vietnam, only 60 percent of HIV patients are given ARV therapy while the rate of HIV infections has increased sharply in recent years, especially among homosexual people and drug addicts.
During their visit, the Vietnamese delegation wished to learn more about treatment for HIV patients having medical insurance cards.
They called at the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) of Thailand which provides 80 percent of pharmaceutical products for domestic consumption and low-cost drugs for AIDS patients.
The international community has provided more than 70 percent of total funding for Vietnam’s HIV patients, but the budget will be partially cut as the country is now a middle-income nation in the near future.
