Vietnam records two more imported Covid-19 patients, total rises to 1,407

Two Vietnamese citizens who recently returned from Myanmar and Dubai have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,407, the Ministry of Health reported on Thursday evening.

According to the ministry's report, one of the newly-reported patients is a 39-year-old man who arrived at Can Tho International Airport from Myanmar on December 12.

He was sent to a quarantine area in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu upon arrival and is now being treated at the Bac Lieu Provincial General Hospital.

The other patient is a 27-year-old woman who returned from Dubai to Cam Ranh International Airport on December 8 and was sent to quarantine in Phu Yen Province upon arrival.

She is now being treated at the Phu Yen Provincial General Hospital.

Earlier five people who boarded the same flight with her were also tested positive for coronavirus.

With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 713.

As of 6 pm on December 17, a total of 1,263Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 18,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
