Vietnam records 8,324 more Covid-19 infections on Friday

Vietnam recorded an additional 8,324 Covid-19 infections on Friday, raising the total number of patients in the country to 193,381, the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 8,320 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 4,060 in Ho Chi Minh City, 1,169 in Binh Duong, 859 in Long An, 554 in Dong Nai, 269 in Khanh Hoa, 253 in Tien Giang, 141 in Dong Thap, 138 in Danang, 116 in Hanoi, 102 in Tay Ninh, 94 in Can Tho, 66 in Binh Thuan, 63 in Vinh Long, 62 in Tra Vinh, 52 in Ben Tre, 47 in An Giang, 43 in Phu Yen, 25 in Ninh Thuan, 24 in Gia Lai, 21 in Nghe An, 19 in Binh Dinh, 17 in Kien Giang, 17 in Dak Lak, 13 in Ha Tinh, 12 in Hau Giang, 11 in Lao Cai, 11 in Quang Nam, nine in Thanh Hoa, eight in Thai Binh, eight in Ninh Binh, five each in Hai Duong, Binh Phuoc, and Quang Ngai, four in Lam Dong, three in Quang Binh, two each in Bac Lieu, Quang Tri, Lang Son, Vinh Phuc, Thua Thien-Hue, and one in Ha Giang. Among these new infections, 1,486 cases were found in the communities.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Thursday, the city also recorded 3,886 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. Social distancing rules are being further tightened in the city to contain the virus spread.

As of Friday evening, 189,473 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 113,976 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 193,381 including 191,043 locally-transmitted cases.

On August 6, a total of 4,292 more patients were released from hospital following their full recovery, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 62,332.

Also on Friday evening, a further 296 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 3,016.

The country has conducted over 8.06 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 820,023 people having received two doses.
