Vietnam and the Republic of Korea will co-ordinate closely to further boost labour co-operation and swiftly tackle any issues that arise.

Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) will co-ordinate closely to further boost labour co-operation and swiftly tackle any issues that arise.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the visiting Minister of Strategy and Finance of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Bahk Jae Wan shared the pledge during talks in Ha Noi yesterday.

Dung added that Vietnam always creates favourable conditions for RoK enterprises to conduct effective and long-term business in the country .

He said the two countries should foster further co-operation in all fields, especially in economy, trade and investment, adding that two-way trade should record an impressive figure this year, while the trade balance between the two countries should be gradually achieved.

In addition, he suggested the two countries intensify delegation exchanges at all levels, as well as people-to-people activities to tighten friendship and mutual understanding, while working hard for the success of the ongoing negotiations of the Vietnam-RoK Free Trade Agreement.

The visiting minister said his country wished to further bolster co-operation with Vietnam in manufacturing, along with boosting co-operation on economy, trade and investment.

"RoK always attaches great importance to relations with Vietnam and will exert every effort to continue deepening the bilateral co-operation," the guest added.

On the same day, an agreement on 2013 co-operation was signed between finance ministers of Vietnam and the RoK as part of activities to implement the memorandum of understanding on their financial co-operation in the 2012-15 period.

Vietnamese Finance Minister Vuong Dinh Hue spoke highly of the RoK ministry's assistance to Vietnam, particularly in implementing official development assistance (ODA) projects in his country.

He expressed his hope that this year, the RoK will continue sharing experience in restructuring State-owned businesses, managing State reserves, supervising the financial market and assessing the implementation of the State's investment and export credit policies.

Since 2008, the RoK has been named in the top three ODA providers for Vietnam, focusing on infrastructure, urban development, vocational training, health and water supply.
