Vietnam has continued to see new daily record in the number of Covid-19 infections with 78,795 cases confirmed on Friday, the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 78,774 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (9,836), Quang Ninh (4,615), Bac Giang (3,563), Tuyen Quang (2,797), and Phu Tho (2.696). There were 21 imported cases confirmed the same day.

The new infections showed an increase of 9,655 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 54,345 infections found in the community.

As of Friday evening, 3,112,985 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (528,265), Binh Duong (295,560), Hanoi (236,800), Dong Nai (100,923), and Tay Ninh (89,723). Vietnam has so far confirmed 205 Omicron-infected cases.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 3,120,301. The country now stands 30th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On February 25, an additional 15,835 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,355,619.

On Friday evening, a further 78 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 39,962. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (20), Danang (7), Hai Phong (3), Hoa Binh (3), Nghe An (3), Phu Tho (3), and Thanh Hoa (3).

Vietnam on February 24 administered 187,683 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 192.86 million.
