Vietnam continues to report rising number of Covid-19 infections

Vietnam has continued to report an increase in the number of Covid-19 infections with over 14,000 more cases confirmed on Sunday, the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 14,105 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 56 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,797), Danang (927), Quang Nam (853), Nghe An (675), and Nam Dinh (593). There were seven imported cases confirmed the same day.

The new infections showed an increase of 1,945 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 8,595 infections found in the community.

As of Sunday evening, 2,334,867 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (514,457), Binh Duong (292,967), Hanoi (148,008), Dong Nai (99,952), and Tay Ninh (88,520). Vietnam has so far confirmed 192 Omicron-infected cases.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,341,971. The country now stands 31st among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On February 6, an additional 6,802 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,112,715.

On Sunday evening, a further 63 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 38,324. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Ben Tre (7), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (6), Vinh Long (5), Bac Ninh (4), Danang (4), and HCM City (4).

Vietnam on February 5 administered 77,428 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 182.18 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, including over 74.24 million people having received two doses and over 28.84 million people having received three doses.
