Vietnam confirms additional 131,713 Covid-19 infections, tally surpasses 8 million

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Monday reported an additional 131,713 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 8.08 million.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Monday reported an additional 131,713 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 8.08 million.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (17,916), Nghe An (5,403), Phu Tho (5,348), Bac Ninh (4,295), and Lao Cai (4,282).

As of Monday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 8,089,761. The country now stands 14th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (1,188,086), HCM City (584,234), Binh Duong (362,009), Nghe An (351,251), and Hai Duong (299,214).

On March 21, an additional 179,640. more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 4,282,668.

On Monday evening, a further 69 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 41,949. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Bac Lieu (5), Dong Nai (5), Quang Nam (5), Quang Ngai (5), Binh Duong (4), An Giang (3), Hanoi (3), Khanh Hoa (3), Phu Tho (3), and Tra Vinh (3).

Vietnam on March 20 administered 167,693 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 201.82 million.
